Ian Walker Master Class during Russian Sailing Week Volvo

The skipper of Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 Green Dragon, Ian Walker made a racing master class for beginner sailors during annual Russian Sailing Week Volvo, which took place on 10th-17th October in Marmaris, Turkey.

The event is organized for the 6th time by Phoenix Yachting (Austria) which has 2 charter bases in Turkey, with the support of Volvo Cars Russia and in partnership with sailing school Russian Yachting Centre (Moscow).

This fun race became very popular and is an event for those who makes the first steps in sailing. However, the race is very seriously taken by both, the organizers and the participants and this time it was 24 sailing boats, provided by Phoenix Yachting, and gathered nearly 200 sailors, who raced for one week.

On the last racing day Ian Walker, specially invited to the event, joined the outsider boat, Dufour 425 "Loreley", with young lady skipper, who was for the first time at helm. Loreley finished the 2nd of all the fleet and made 3nd place in her division, due to her IRC rating. The crew was absolutely astonished by Ian's Walker lesson and the rest of the fleet was deeply envying.

During the prize giving ceremony Karin Backlund, the Director of Volvo Ocean Race in VOLVO (Sweden) and Green Dragon skipper Ian Walker made an impressive presentation about Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009.

The trophies were giving to the winners in 2 divisions, but the best price was for Loreley team, who had a chance to sail with the master, thank to the race organizers.
